the medical community and governments to promote the delivery of quality eye care.
The Eye Surgery Education Council, often referred to as the LASIK Institute, was launched in June of 2002 at the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery's Annual Symposium and Congress. Early in 2003 the Eye Surgery Education Council came under the administration of the ASCRS Foundation, which is a 501©(3) organization whose mission includes public education, support of charitable eye care programs in third world countries as well as ophthalmic research.
Currently, the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery is forming, equipping, and training staff for the ASCRS Foundation Pediatric Eye Care Clinic located in Addis Abba, Ethiopia. For additional information about the clinic, its operations and what you can do to help, contact the ASCRS Communications Director, John Ciccone, at (703) 788-5761.
The main goals of the Eye Surgery Education Council are to increase doctor-patient communication about eye surgery and eye health, as well as to provide patients with accessible and accurate information about laser eye surgery.
You can access a wealth of information about treatment for various eye conditions as well as ways to care for eyes and promote eye health at the Eye Surgery Education Council's website found at http://www.lasikinstitute.org.
